Entelim vs Ardoq

A factual comparison for teams evaluating enterprise architecture tools.

The short answer

Ardoq is a modular, outcome-packaged enterprise architecture platform, organised around visibility, transformation and governance modules, with unlimited users and per-application pricing available only on request. Its own metamodel is explicitly framework-flexible — built to align with TOGAF, BIZBOK, NIST or your own internal methodology, rather than one fixed notation. Entelim is open source under AGPL, self-hostable, and built specifically on ArchiMate 3.2.

If your team already thinks in Ardoq's outcome modules, that structure doesn't have to change to try Entelim alongside it — import what you have and compare the two directly.

What Entelim already does

  • Import your existing model. ArchiMate Open Exchange and .archimate import, with a full element browser across every layer.
  • Find what you're paying for twice. Run duplicate detection across your whole application list, review the overlapping groups it finds, and add them to a consolidation plan.
  • A business case built from your own figures — capex, opex, three-year TCO, ROI and payback, never invented to fill a gap.
  • Full ArchiMate 3.2 modelling, where Ardoq's own metamodel is deliberately notation-agnostic.

Bringing your model across

ArchiMate Open Exchange and CSV are the working path to bring a model across.

Frequently asked questions

How do we move from Ardoq to Entelim, and how much work is it?

There is no direct connector from Ardoq, so you move your data as files. Export an ArchiMate Open Exchange file if it offers one, or spreadsheets if not, then import them with batch import. The work is the export from Ardoq and checking what arrived, which the import history records. If you would rather not do it yourselves, the architecture health check does the import and analysis for a fixed $4,500, and onboarding is $1,500 on top of the Team plan.

Will we lose data moving from Ardoq?

What comes across is what you can export: elements, relationships and properties from an Open Exchange file, and the columns of a spreadsheet. Anything that lives only inside the old tool, such as its own reports, dashboards, workflow records and user accounts, does not come across, so export what you need before your contract ends. Nothing is removed from Ardoq by importing, so keep it running until you have compared counts and spot-checked the results.

What would Entelim cost us compared with Ardoq?

Ardoq publishes no prices: its plans page routes you to a custom quote, with pricing per application in tiers and unlimited users included. Ask for a quote at your application count and compare. Entelim's price does not depend on how many applications you hold: Community is free for up to three people, Startup is $49 a month for up to ten, Team is $29 per editor a month ($290 billed annually) with read-only members free, and Enterprise starts at $24,000 a year. Self-hosting is free. Twenty editors on Team annual come to $5,800 a year.

What would we give up by leaving Ardoq?

You would give up Ardoq's outcome-based modules for visibility, transformation and oversight, its metamodel that flexes to TOGAF, BIZBOK, NIST or your own methodology, and its separately sold add-ons such as the sandbox and AI process modelling. Entelim works to one notation, and there is no one-click transfer, since it imports files.

What would we gain by moving from Ardoq to Entelim?

A published price, free self-hosting, and ArchiMate 3.2 as the modelling standard, which Ardoq's plans page does not name. Entelim also keeps the model, the application portfolio, the business case and the review board in one product, with a proof drawer that shows how each derived connection was reached.

Can we run Ardoq and Entelim side by side before deciding?

Yes. Import a copy of your model into the free Community plan or a self-hosted copy, ask the same questions in both, and leave Ardoq untouched. The health check puts your own data through Entelim for a fixed price and date.

Is Ardoq pricing public anywhere?

No. Ardoq's plans page shows no prices and offers a custom quote. Pricing is per application, in tiers, with unlimited users included. Entelim's plans are published on the pricing page.

Does Ardoq support ArchiMate specifically?

Ardoq's plans page names TOGAF, BIZBOK, NIST and GDPR as supported frameworks and describes a flexible metamodel for your own methodology. It does not name ArchiMate. If ArchiMate is your standard, ask Ardoq how it maps to its metamodel before you decide.

Do we have to publish our code if we use Entelim?

No. Self-hosting is free under AGPL, and a commercial licence is available for organisations that do not want AGPL's obligations.
